Private Tuition / Reeling Lessons

John Carver offers private reeling tuition for groups preparing to attend prestigious Scottish balls, where there may be no caller or walk-throughs on the night.

At the reeling and ceilidh events John runs himself, no prior experience is ever required, as he is skilled at reading the room and adjusting the dances to suit the ages and experience levels of his guests. However, for high-profile events such as the Royal Caledonian Ball in London - the most distinguished reeling ball south of the border - or any of the very smart Scottish balls that take place over the summer months, many guests find it helpful and more relaxing to have attended a few practice sessions beforehand, as everyone is expected to know the dances without instruction on the night.

John provides tailored teaching for groups of at least eight people and can travel to any suitable venue in London or beyond. A single three-hour session is usually sufficient to cover all the main reels likely to be danced.

Fewer than ten mainstream reels typically appear at these events, and John’s sessions ensure everyone feels confident on the dance floor.
